On Thursday, the Bengal CID apprehended Sumit Roy, the personal assistant to TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee. This move came after the Supreme Court denied Roy’s anticipatory bail request, which also lifted the previous protection against his arrest linked to the Salboni land scam case. His bail plea had been rejected by the Calcutta High Court due to ongoing investigations into alleged government land transactions and irregularities in TMC account deposits.
