As Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, an adaptation of Homer’s epic poem, arrives in cinemas, a very different odyssey is about to begin. Next month, a team of scientists will travel to the remote Arctic town of Kirkenes in Norway to board the floating laboratory Tara Polar Station for an eight-month expedition.
